For your eyes only: insider's sneak-peek of upcoming film Snk'mip Dig Deeper

Six years in the making, featuring a cast of thousands (okay, not quite)... and... lights, camera, action! I didn't actually get to say that last one (darn) because we've been making a documentary film and not a scripted drama... nonetheless I've learned a huge amount about the art and craft of film-making while making Snk'mip Dig Deeper.

Best of all, I've been incredibly honoured to work collaboratively with Marilyn James, co-director of this film and an Autonomous Sinixt Matriarch. We've crafted a film we're very excited about and it's coming out with selected community screenings this fall!

Filming commenced in the summer of 2019 when the Valhalla Foundation for Ecology started restoration work at the Snk'mip Marsh Sanctuary. That's when we started restoring and ecologically enhancing a previously-damaged wetland property. We quickly learned there was a lot more to restoration than using western science to de-compact road surfaces and make ponds.

As settlers on unceded Indigenous land, we had a lot to learn about just whose land this truly is and that ecological restoration has to go hand in hand with truth and reconciliation in our relationship with the Indigenous caretakers of this place.

Take a look at our GORGEOUS trailer [click here] which features the music of Indigenous superstar Jayli Wolf, cinematography by Mark Wolfe, film editing by Kerry McArthur, a stunning mural illustration created by Indigenous artist Chenoa Gao, and graphics by my super-talented colleague Yasmin Rodriguez Toro who also created our striking movie poster.

Stay tuned for more posts and e-mails as we roll out our media campaign for the film Snk'mip Dig Deeper. For now, that's a wrap (yes I'm having massive fun with all the movie cliches!)
